AI is getting creepy. I'm Serious

Feb 21, 2026

Recently, I bought Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition. The voice assistant to replace the Amazon Alexa, although, I admittedly still use my Alexa.

To start, I used Homeway, an open-source, "free" alternative to the Home Assistant Cloud. Although, Homeway has Sage AI, an AI assistant, which I used for a while… until I hit the free plan.

Now, I could have…

  • Paid for Homeway

  • Gotten an Gemini or OpenAI Developer Key

  • Use Letta, an open-source framework and operating system designed for building stateful AI agents that can remember, learn, and manage long-term context.

I decided to go with Letta because I had credits that I would otherwise never use, besides from Verveo.

But… There's no integration for Letta for Home Assistant. I didn't want to spend time on making my own because I'm… lazy. So, I went to Codex by OpenAI. I put in one single prompt, seen below:

Build an AI integration for Home Assistant using Letta. I want it to easy and simple so I can simply put in my API key.

Please create a HACS addon that can be easily installed.

I must be able to use this with voice assistants and such with little to no errors.

Then, I waited a bit, and pushed it to my Github Repo. It worked, with a ReadMe file perfectly. I installed it with no errors, and it worked.

This is actually creepy. AI just created something in a few minutes that would have otherwise taken me at least half an hour.

If you're interested in using this addon in your own Home Assistant instance, it can be found below.
